Just like Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky‘ is the sound of the summer (yes every summer!), Sunshine and Showers is the story of every summer in London.
I listen to the radio a lot, and I sort of feel bad for the weather reporters who just have to repeat the same forecast every hour for three whole months. The upside, of course, is that I honestly believe that clothes are much more interesting in the summer.
It may be because I was born in the Tropics, but winter clothes, even the most glamorous are always a bit utilitarian for simple virtue of the fact that they are primarily intended to keep us warm. I actually think the fashion world agrees with me. We all noticed the open toe sandals and bare legs on display last February in New York Fashion Week, even as Manhattan was ravished by a super snow-storm. That’s because summer clothes are much cooler, even if they leave us feeling much colder. But looking cool is the name of the game at NYFW and celebs are all keen to get photographed lots, so they put up with frozen tootsies in between the limo and the tent….
But in the summer, oh glorious summer, there is no need to stay warm in order to survive….so we can show as many legs, chests, feet and arms as we want. Hell, I’ve even been known to show some back!
My only requirement in the summer is to keep my feet dry when those showers rain down from the heavens. That is why I am a big fan of the summer booty. Ankle boots look great with shorts, or floaty dresses and add a charming boho edge to any summer outfit. Charmant.
This week I am wearing relatively straight forward dresses to work and to play, but I am blinging them up with layered golden jewellery. bracelet stacks and many delicate golden necklaces are the big hit of the summer, everyone is doing it. The reason why I like this look a lot is because it allows me to dust off some old pieces and mix and match tonnes of stuff I have had for ages, because this slightly pell mell vibe is what the look is all about.
I would always recommend investing your precious pennies in your accessories, because jewellery and classic bags will survive shifting trends much better than that darling little suede A-line skirt everyone seems to be pining over. Or culottes. Fact.
