Weekly Fashion Forecast: Sunshine & Showers

Just like Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky‘ is the sound of the summer (yes every summer!), Sunshine and Showers is the story of every summer in London. I listen to the radio a lot, and I sort of feel bad for the weather reporters who just have to repeat the same forecast every hour for three whole months. The upside, of course, is that I honestly believe that clothes are much more interesting in the summer. It may be because I was born in the Tropics, but winter clothes, even the most glamorous are always a bit utilitarian for simple virtue of the fact that they are primarily intended to keep us warm. I actually think the fashion world agrees with me. We all noticed the open toe sandals and bare legs on display last February in New York Fashion Week, even as Manhattan was ravished by a super snow-storm. That’s because summer clothes are much cooler, even if they leave us feeling much colder. But looking cool is the name of the game at NYFW …

Weekly Fashion Forecast: Summer Rain

Rain is just a fact of life- and nowhere more so than in London. It rains a lot….and by a lot I mean A LOT. I think that’s why in the summer where it rains slightly less everyone gets over excited and goes outside. Pubs, clubs, restaurants and shops all migrate to the sidewalks or pop-up in parks when the weather is fair. This week however, the rain will be back. It will still fee fairly hot, and London does get muggy and humid, so I recommend a light trench- the most classic and chic of all rain clothes. Leather shoes keep feet dry and a hat protects the hair- but I wouldn’t be a Londoner if I didn’t carry a brolly with me (that’s an umbrella for all you foreigners and Americans). The other thing that I would certainly recommend is to keep a light cardigan in your bag, because as soon as night hits, the temperature drops. I like grey cashmere- just sayin’. This is what I’ll be wearing this week: Hat, Rag & Bone, …

Weekly Fashion Forecast- Muggy London

London in the summer is absolutely the best place on Earth. Everyone is happier, the city is bustling and absolutely everything moves outside….Restaurants find ways to pop-up on roofs, or to food markets and every bar overpills out on to the streets. But I really love London in the summer because it becomes the most stylish place ever in the summer. Gone are frumpy winter cosy clothes, and in come hot pants, vintage floaty dresses and cotton-candy coloured hair. Heaven. This week however, it will not be sunny, but it will be hot. Which means that it will be muggy and humid and that is just not a good look on anyone. My top tip is to not be fooled by the ominous clouds gathering outside your window, because it WILL stay sweaty. Soz. By the end of the week the sun will be out again and everyone will be happy… Which is why I have chosen the humble white t-shirt as my jump-off point this week. It’s flexible, so you can wear it on grey …
