These boots were made for walkin’

So, it’s winter. It’s cold. I went outside today and it had actually snowed- obviously just a little sprinkling, this is London not New York, unfortunately. But just enough to make it feel colder than usual, and while a lot of people have been traipsing about town rocking the exposed ankle look, I will always be an advocate that real chic is dressing for the weather. I honestly believe that exposed ankles look great, but in the spring or autumn. In the winter I believe in staying warm, and that does not mean that you can’t look bangin’ while doing it. I actually wore my -rather dirty- wellies today for a walk in the park. BUT, wellies are not the warmest shoe in the winter, nor are they the most practical, though plenty of lovely boots out there this season are! So here are a few of my absolute favourite boots to brave the elements in:

Winter skincare savers

I know you don’t need me to tell you that skincare is VITAL. It is the single most important part of any beauty regime- and indeed the only one I abide by with any semblance of discipline. In the winter things become much tougher; everything is dry and flaky and the wind doesn’t help. I spent my youth on a sunny beach wearing little or no sunblock- ah to be young and stupid again!- but I have absolutely learned my lesson. And I am nothing if not unflappably generous with you guys, so here are my top all-time fave skincare bits for the winter. Step 1- Cleansing Clarisonic + Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash = all the cleaning you need. Remove your make-up with your remover of choice, then buzz the dirt away. Cleaning is key when it comes to skincare. The Clarisonic is honestly the best skincare purchase I have ever made, it gently massages all my cares away. It is a little pricey, but it makes me clean my skin everyday and is therefore …

Fashion Forecast- Early February

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, ladies and gentlemen, but it’s going to remain cold, wet and horrible this week here in London. So while we will have to keep our sunglasses in the back of the drawer for couple months yet; the cold weather does offer the opportunity to feel damn cozy all day long. And if there is one thing I value above ALL ELSE, it’s coziness. I would wear a duvet to work if it didn’t take up too much space in the packed rush-hour tube. So I gracefully put together a little lookbook of cozy-yet-stylish bits to wear this week that should help cheer you up even as the wind slaps you around the face. 1. This Long Shearling Coat from TOAST, £1295, is the coolest damn thing I have ever seen  2. A merino and cashmere blend sweater will help keep you warm no matter what. This one is Organic and is by John Patrick, £180.    3. J Brand Jeans, yes please, £160    4.Let’s all agree …

Dinner at Tonkotsu Mare Street

The best thing about living in Hackney is the seemingly endless supply of hot new restaurants and bars available to your average hipster-about-town. My latest gastronomic adventure was a rather impromptu trip to the recently opened Tonkotsu on Mare Street. The third branch of the chain is by far the sleekest- and the first one to feature a cocktail bar. And a good thing that is because on a Friday night you can expect to wait over 40 minutes for a table for two, and potentially longer for bigger groups. But it is worth the wait- especially in the cold winter months when a steaming bowl of rich broth and fresh ramen is the only food IN THE WORLD that would drag me from under my cashmere blanket. The menu is simple stuff- six or seven options of ramen, including the brand-new seafood option- available only at the Mare Street outpost. There are also some appetisers, most of which are fried, and some very delicate gyoza. Everything is delicious and warming, even if I think …

Light and Loaded- potato soup

Guys, it’s hella cold here in London. So cold the only thing I can think about is fleecy pyjamas and steaming bowls of comfort food- preferably served to me in bed, where I can eat them under my duvet and my lambswool blanket. Unfortunately- it’s also January. You know January; the first month of the year when lots of us make ridiculous promises to eat clean, not drink and exercise for moronic reasons like new year, new me? That one. Well, I have actually been keeping my promises for a change and all in I do actually feel better- but, today is especially cold ad I hear it’s even going to snow. So my brain is saying: ‘eat healthy Rita, you can do it xxxx’, while my stomach is saying ‘give me baaaaaaacon and carbs!!!!’. I crave loaded potato skins like nobody’s business, you guys. NOBODY’S BUSINESS. Luckily I have found a recipe that is both light(er), but also full of bacon and potato and cheese. It’s a slow-cooker recipe which is just the best because it …
